· The pebbly mudstone deposits of the Greenwich slice are interpreted here as a product of mass wasting of inner trench slope apron sediments. The sediment that makes up the radiolaria-bearing mudstone clasts probably accumulated in an area influenced by a relatively high influx of fine-grain terrige- nous sediment although local variations in radiolaria productivity may have played a role.
